Named after Colonel William Alexander Wetherall CBE,DL,JP., who lived for many years in Rugeley and had identified himself for all kinds of good deeds and works in Rugeley. He had also held important public offices in the County of Staffordshire . He died in December 1935. Colonel Wetherall also took a great interest in Rugeley Billiards Club and was first secretary and then ultimately President.
