George Smith was a master builder. He built many cottages in and around Fortescue Lane, which were rented out and sold on his death. They were strict methodists and George played the organ for many years at the Methodist Church.
He and his wife, Emma lived and died in Chadsworth House, 41 Fortescue Lane.
